Our Story
Earthworkers grew out of For the Love of Bees (2016–2024), carrying forward its values into a structured training pathway. What began as a grassroots movement to support pollinators and regenerative practice has evolved into a comprehensive educational trust, dedicated to building the skills and confidence of growers across Aotearoa. Shifting how we think about farming, soil health, and our relationship with the land and growing.
For The Love Of Bees Founded2016
Started as a passion project focused on bee conservation and sustainable agriculture practices in New Zealand.
First Educational Programs2018
Launched community workshops on pollinator-friendly farming and regenerative agriculture principles.
Expanded Course Offerings2020
Developed comprehensive training programs covering soil health, permaculture design, and sustainable farming systems.
Community Network Growth2022
Built a network of over 300 graduates implementing regenerative practices across New Zealand and beyond.

Daniel Schuurman
Regenerative Agronomist & Facilitator
Daniel is one of Aotearoa's leading regenerative horticulturists and director of Biologix, helping farmers eliminate pesticides by focusing on soil and plant microbiology. As Co-Creator and Facilitator of Earthworkers: Regenerative Horticulture 101, he mentors on Regenerate Now and the Urban Farmers Alliance, viewing education as vital for regenerative practice uptake. Daniel studies under Dr Elaine Ingham at the Soil Food Web Institute and follows leading researchers in Regenerative Organic Agriculture worldwide.

Sarah Smuts-Kennedy
Founder & Facilitator
FTLOB Founder, Earthworkers Facilitator Sarah Smuts-Kennedy is the founder of For the Love of Bees and one of the founders of the OMG urban farm on Symonds Street, Auckland. She is an artist and a biology first regenerative farmer at Maunga Kereru. In 2020 Sarah received a Commendation for her work at For The Love of Bees, The Sustainability Superstar Award at the Sustainable Business Awards. In 2022, after 8 years of dedicated work growing For The Love of Bees, Sarah Smuts-Kennedy stepped back from her leadership role at FTLOB. She remains a key facilitator in our Earthworkers programme and an essential part of our advisory and education team.
